Midland Pig Producers have submitted plans to build what will be the UK's largest pig farm on the outskirts of Foston Village in Derbyshire and will house up to 25,000 pigs when fully operational.
The Soil Association and Pig Business co-organised an event held in Burton on Trent Town Hall - 23rd June 2011, this event was designed to highlight the potential problems faced by those living near to the proposed development and to screen the short film "The Dark Side of Farming"
Linda Wardale of Vegan Lincs was invited to be on a panel at the event to offer support in the campaign opposing the Foston development and to tell the story of how one person spearheaded the Nocton Campaign in Lincolnshire working closely with Viva and how it became a national and international campaign with multi-organisations getting involved.
Justin Kerswell - Campaigns Manager from Viva has been working with campaigners in Foston from the onset - Vegan Lincs have also been working with Viva.

Lincoln Veggie Fayre 2011 - Great Success
Vegan Lincs organised the 4th Lincoln Veggie Fayre 2011 on Saturday 12th November, Juliet Gellately Director and Founder of Viva opened the event which was a great success with almost 700 visitors attending the event - with many coming from Birmingham, Sheffield, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - the feedback was really positive and everyone enjoyed the day. There were lots of new faces, and there were many who had been before - some even were reunited after several years of not seeing each other.
We had a surpise visit from famous Dub Poet and author - Benjamin Zephaniah, who enjoyed the event and sampled some great vegan friendly food - including Yellowbelly's Sticky Toffee Cup Cake! (see www.yellowbellys.co.uk for a short clip of Benjamin's comments on yellowbelly's cakes)
